Staffordshire Library Volunteers

2019-11 HSJ awards - Health and Local Government Partnership award.jpgMPFT works with local communities to provide library services. These community libraries are run by volunteers, managed by the Trust and supported by Staffordshire County Council's library service.

We believe we should provide excellent clinical services for those that need them, but also support people to improve and maintain their mental wellbeing. Communities are very important for our wellbeing and we recognise that libraries provide a focus for local people to come together, as well as offering opportunities for learning, socialising and volunteering.

In order to continue to provide services, each library needs volunteers to take on a variety of roles. If you are interested, please contact libraryvolunteers@mpft.nhs.uk for more information.

The nine libraries we manage are: Barton Under Needwood, Baswich, Rising Brook, Brewood, Glascote, Holmcroft, Heath Hayes, Hednesford and Norton Canes. Some of our volunteers are pictured winning an HSJ Award for their work.

How to Apply

Most of our volunteering opportunities will be advertised on the NHS Jobs website. This will ensure all pre-placement checks are completed for our records and will ultimately speed up the process of hiring volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering at MPFT, please complete the Volunteering enquiry form.

Once we have received your form, we will review our available volunteering opportunities within MPFT and contact you with an update on your enquiry.

If you require any assistance or further information, please contact the Team at volunteering@mpft.nhs.uk.

If undertaking a clinical voluntary role, we ask for appropriate modest wear, i.e. smart T-shirt, smart trousers and sensible footwear. No see-through clothing, no obvious logos or writing, no loose jewellery and you should be bare below the elbow, no watches and no nail varnish.

If undertaking a corporate voluntary role, we ask for appropriate corporate wear, i.e. smart shirt/blouse, smart trousers/knee-length skirt and sensible footwear.

Like a member of staff, if you are unable to attend because of sickness, you should inform your supervisor as soon as possible and keep us informed as to the likely date of return. We may ask you for a reason (for your well-being and our auditing purposes) but this will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

All our bases are different. We recommend that you bring lunch with you on your first day, if you are not familiar with the site or area.
