Integrated Physiotherapy Orthopaedic Pain Service (IPOPS) is an service for patients with musculoskeletal problems. The team includes a number of specialists including physiotherapists, extended scope practitioners (in podiatry and physiotherapy), a sports and exercise medicine consultant, community rheumatology nurses and chronic pain management specialists.

Detailed assessment from a specialist musculoskeletal clinician who devises a management plan in discussion with the patient may involve:

  • Advice on management
  • Exercises
  • Joint or soft tissue injection
  • Lower limb biomechanical analysis
  • Orthotics
  • Physiotherapy
  • Referral to:
    • Orthopaedic surgeon
    • Pain consultant
    • Rheumatology consultant
  • Referral for investigations:
    • Blood tests 
    • MRI scans
    • Nerve conduction studies
    • Ultrasound scans
    • X-ray

Service users are assessed and triaged to the correct health professional for their needs. They will receive necessary treatment which could include physiotherapy, a pain management and/or rheumatology assessment and treatment and support and advice to support their condition.
