What happens during my appointment?

During your appointment the clinician will examine you to assess your problem. For this examination you may be required to undress to some degree depending upon your problem, for example removal of a top for a shoulder problem. Please consider this and wear appropriate loose clothing so that you are comfortable and able to move freely during the examination. Please also bring a list of medication you are currently taking.

Your initial assessment will be 30-45 minutes long. Your physiotherapist will ask you questions about the reason you have been referred, your past medical history and the impact this has had on your work and hobbies.
They will then form a physical assessment. To complete this thoroughly you might be asked to remove some of your clothing, so you may want to wear or bring shorts with you as well as a short-sleeved top or vest.
You will then both formulate a treatment plan according to your problems, your expectations and your goals. If appropriate you will be given written information and and when possible, a follow up appointment will be booked with the same member of staff.
