Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust community nursing staff in teams across Burntwood, Lichfield and Tamworth have been delighted to receive a supply of protective face shields from The Hart School at Rugeley.

Staff from The Hart School have created the shields and pupils have helped with cutting foam and stripping plastic.  The pupils have also produced thank you rainbow pictures to go out with each delivery.

The shields are being used by nursing staff who are working in the community with patients with a positive or suspected diagnosis of Covid-19.  The Community Nursing/ District Nursing Service care for patients who are housebound and are unable to visit their GP practice, with the aim of avoiding unnecessary hospital admission.   They work closely with other health professionals such as Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, GP practices and social care colleagues, to ensure that patient needs are met and they remain safe and cared for in their home environment.  Some of the services they provide include, wound care, complex care with long term conditions and palliative and end of life care.

Helen Wheeler, General Manager for South East Alliance says; “We are very grateful to everyone at The Hart School who have produced these face shields which are helping to keep our staff and patients safe.  It is lovely to know that our local community are thinking of us at this difficult time”.

Sandhip Dosanjh, Assistant Principal from the Hart School added, “This started as a local project but we have now had enquiries from as far afield as Scotland.  We are now aiming to make 10,000 shields and have received amazing support from local people and businesses who have been donating money and equipment for us to continue”.
