Inspectors have rated the Home First service in Stoke-on-Trent as Good.  They noted that people were treated with dignity and respect and supported to have choice and control of their lives as far as the service could facilitate.  They also noted that there was a strong focus in the service on learning lessons when things went wrong and continuously trying to improve.

Jennie Collier, Managing Director of these services, said “I am very happy with the feedback from this latest inspection.  My colleagues have worked hard to ensure our Home First service in Stoke-on-Trent meets the needs of local people and we are delighted to have achieved a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission.”

“It is particularly pleasing to hear that people have been complimentary about the impact the service has had on their lives, recognising they have made good progress because of the support received.”

The services were last inspected in December 2019. Since then, MPFT has introduced a new staff allocation system which has improved the management of calls.  This has ensured no calls are missed and helped ensure visits can be at more regular times and with more consistent staff.

Inspectors noted there was still further work to be done around appointment times and the consistency of the care team being sent.  The Home First team are focused on this area and are planning to introduce a new locality based team structure which will support improvements.

Home First is registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide personal care for people in their own home who are clinically safe to be discharged from acute hospital, but still require care services in the short term.
