Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chairman to lead the Trust Board and Council of Governors.

Mr Richard Cotterell, who has been a Non Executive Director of the Trust since 2016 and is currently Vice Chair of the Trust, will take up his new appointment in July.

His appointment follows the retirement of current Chair, Mr Martin Gower, who has been Chairman of the Trust for the past 6 years.

Mr Cotterell has been with Caterpillar Inc. since 1997 where he has held numerous leadership roles managing large, complex and diverse international businesses. He holds a BSc in Business Studies and an MBA from Warwick University and brings extensive operational, commercial and financial skills to the Board.

Mr Cotterell says “I am delighted to have been appointed as Chairman. “I believe MPFT is an organisation with strong values and more importantly one that brings them to life.  I am excited to be part of building a strong legacy and one that has a direct impact on the quality of people’s lives.”

Current Chairman Martin Gower commented “This is an excellent appointment for the Trust.  Richard has demonstrated his commitment to ensuring service users and patients are at the centre of everything we do and I know that he has the skills and experience to continue to develop and improve our organisation”.

Chief Executive Neil Carr added “Whilst sorry to see Martin Gower retiring from the Board, we welcome the opportunity to work with a new Chairman who will continue the excellent work of the Trust Board and Council of Governors whilst also bringing a fresh perspective and new energy.”

Mr Cotterell will take up post at the beginning of July.
